The Mosaic Community Trust intends to carry out projects that facilitate inter-faith dialogue and action through co-ordinating regular inter-faith meetings at the community level (bringing local religious leaders together to address community based issues). |
Our projects aim to: Reduce and prevent religious based tensions, violence, fear and prejudice through increasing knowledge and understanding of other faiths and beliefs and thus learn to respect, trust and love each other. |
| |
| What are our current activities? |
| |
| 1. Inter-faith women’s cells at various places of worship to enable women members to engage in community and social action programmes, which aim to empower disadvantaged local women to effectively participate in their home and community life and thus overcome fear, prejudice, isolation, insecurity and exclusion. |
2. Through theatre as a medium, work with young people to increase their understanding of different religions, faiths and cultures and enable them to increase their understanding, trust and respect for each others’ religions and cultures. |
| 3. Express yourself - Art, music or creative writing competition for young people: organising a Creative Arts project which involves Primary school children in Westbourne Park to collaborate with one or more friends on a piece of art, music or creative writing. |
4. Through befriending and mentoring services, disadvantaged and isolated Muslim women will gain the relevant knowledge and skills to engage effectively in their children's school and educational lives which, currently, they are unable to do as a result of their non-English background. |
| |
Who are the beneficiaries of our service? |
| |
| 1. Disadvantaged communities who are often the victims of isolation, religious based prejudice and violence, suspicion, fear and hatred.
2. Wider communities, who would benefit from an increased awareness of different religions and cultures. 3. Locally based religious leaders who can influence their congregants through a increased understanding of other faiths and cultures.
